Ketogenics? Pah…

Okay, so that didn’t work out so well.

Christmas is coming, and Ketogenic diets are all well and good, but they’re nutritionally deficient — the kind of thing you might do for a short while, but not the sort of thing you’d want to live with, especially if it makes your hands and feet go numb and tingly (which it did, for my wife anyway).  And besides, you can’t bake Christmas cookies on a ketogenic diet, but with a little invention, you surely can on a Primal diet!

So, goodbye keto diet — hello gluten-free chocolate shortbread.  And amazingly, I haven’t even put much weight back on…

Don’t really know what the diet was about… i.e. what you had to do without, though it sounds a bit stringent from what you say here. Sounds like the battle of the bulge is hard work!

Mine has been partly won by discovering that the IBS I have suffered from for years is in fact Gluten intolerance… not IBS at all. It only seems to apply to wheat gluten, which is helpful, though I apply the gluten free principal as far as I possibly can (I need porridge oats for the cholesterol problem as I was above the safety line but that doesn’t seem to cause a problem). I have lost a couple of stone and seem to be able to maintain ‘where I am’ fairly well.

Hope your ‘normal diet’ works, once you’ve decided on what it is.

My problem is mainly I love bread and can’t have it. Have just bought some Rye flour, described as naturally low in gluten, as a trial, will make a loaf after Christmas and see what effect that has.

I steer clear of gluten myself, but there are some excellent options for gluten-free breads and flours if you’re prepared to go that extra mile to make them. A lot of this comes down to choosing a healthier option, rather than doing away with something entirely!
