My Foodie Crutch

So, when I’m not feeling great, I eat.  This is a contributing factor to my impressive waistline, and certainly one of those things that I’m supposed to remedy, I think–it’s a bad habit.  But in practice, I think what happens more often is that instead, I just go and eat things I’m allowed to eat when I’m feeling bad.  This often means a bunch of pork skins — chicharrones, which are lighter and crispier than the armour-grade pork scratchings I grew up with — and a bunch of nuts.  Usually, a “bunch” means “too many”.

The trouble is, when it’s healthy, it’s difficult to dismiss it as a bad thing.  It doesn’t seem to make me feel bad.  Emotionally, it does help, and it does make me feel better.  And I’m still losing weight, after all.  So is it really all that bad?

Hey ho.  I sort of know that it is bad.  And maybe down the line, I’ll even do something about it.  But for now, I’m just going to make sure I’ve got plenty of chipotle peanuts kicking around the house.  Choose your battles, and all that…
