Brain Bite #2

It’s Friday, I’m in a slightly cruddy mood, and I need a break from things. Time for a Brain Bite.

Music of the Moment: Amnesia by KMFDM
Because it feels like it fits my mood today.

Comics, Music, and Archaeological Digs

Sometimes I find myself wondering how I ended up doing what I do for a living. I’ve wanted to be a musician, painter, comic-book artist, singer, physicist, archaeologist, and many other things in my life…and somehow I ended up as being a programmer, even though most (though admittedly, not all) of the things I wanted to be were more artsy.  I blame text adventures.

Because a friend of mine said to me, paraphrasing because I’m sure he said it far more eloquently–“I heard English people think castles are dull.” No, no! This cannot be so! I love castles, and ruins, and anything like them — Hadrian’s Wall, the old Roman forts, all of it.  Crawling under them, climbing on them, walking round them, damn near anything really.  In fact, here’s a much younger me, enjoying exactly that:

It’s not quite as much fun as crawling through old Roman heating ducts, but still…

Bah. Today, I really miss pie. Sometimes, trying to lose weight really sucks. Technically, of course, I can eat pie if I want to…but I’d feel really dumb if I did. So no pie for me.

The Last Door
I paid up for updates to this game ages ago, and this afternoon, the Beta of Chapter 2’s first episode is available to play!  I’d just finished playing my way through the original Suikoden — a good game, if not up to the standards of its awesome successor — and I wasn’t in the mood for any other games today, but this is a really great discovery.  If you’ve not played it, I recommend going to give it a go — clicking the image should take you right to it.
